Dear Alexander students and parents of grades 7-12, Our D and F list continues to grow every week. Please remember: Students you are responsible to complete your homework weekly. If you have questions, utilize the homework or IT help desk, reach out to your teachers, reach out to Mrs. Faller, Mr. Allard or myself, Ms. Bieber. You cannot expect to receive a passing grade unless you earn it! I know that this is not ideal, it is more difficult, it is confusing and frustrating at times and life has completely changed! Attendance is essential to student success. Students at Alexander School are allotted 15 days of absences (excused & unexcused). Students who miss due to doctor's appointments are asked to bring a doctor's note so that those absences do not count in the 15 days of absences. We do this to encourage parents to seek the treatment their children need. Excused and unexcused absences are differentiated by a phone call from parents or guardians. High school students who miss more than the allotted 15 days are in danger of losing credit for graduation and elementary students who miss more than 15 days risk being retained due to missing essential instructional time. Administration will consider special circumstances with communication from parents/guardians. Please be sure to call or send a note when your child will not be in school, without notification students will be marked unexcused and have to make up that missed time. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter because your children being in school is important. Your input is needed in regard to next year's school calendar. Please take the survey using the link below. You can also find the link on our app, social media, and website. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KQ9PQ52

Research shows 8 long term health benefits from volunteering: 1. By helping others, you’ll build a greater sense of trust and self-esteem. 2. The relationships you can create while volunteering are endless. 3. Volunteers encounter greater longevity and less frequency of heart disease. Volunteers may be at a lower risk for memory loss, too. 4. You attain a personal sense of accomplishment, which accounts for some of the positive effects that volunteering has on your mood. 5. When you assist others, your body releases dopamine in the brain, which has a positive effect on how you feel. Volunteers also experience lower levels of depression. 6. Volunteering as a family is a great way to teach important lessons to your children. Kids are always learning from the example you set for them, so make sure it’s a good one! 7. By giving back to the community, you can lay the foundation for service in the years to come. 8. Volunteering gives you the opportunity explore new skills and interests that you might not get to enjoy otherwise. You can broaden your horizons while helping others at the same time. Information above is from https://nonprofithub.org/featured/8-long-term-health-benefits-of-volunteering/ Please contact the front office with any questions at 701-828-3335.

Often times, we hear students say, “I can’t, it’s too hard,” and we as teachers have to find a way to entice students to embrace the struggle. Challenges are what make us grow. When we are challenged, we have to dig deep within ourselves to find the tools to solve the issue at hand or dig deep to persevere against the challenge. We cannot expect our students to grow unless they embrace challenges and step out of their comfort zone to grow from them. Perseverance is a great character trait to develop in order to become a successful adult.

Congratulations to Drew LeBrun, Dylan Schooley, and Bochelle Taylor for receiving Student of the Month! Drew Lebrun (8th grade) is a leader but when needed can also take on any role that is required within a group. Drew is respectful, kind, thoughtful and is a great role model for his peers. He has great work ethic, attitude and always participates in class. He is always willing to go the extra mile to help others. Drew does not hesitate to take the initiative to complete something that is not asked of him. He takes responsibility, not only for himself, but sometimes for others. Finally, Drew is accepting of all students, no matter their ability, race, or background Dylan Schooley (10th grade) strives to better himself as a person. He is an extremely hard worker. He is a very positive, kind, and helpful person. He is always willing to help others, even without being asked. He strives to better himself and his community, regardless of who is watching. Dylan is known for his smile and has a winning attitude. Over the course of the last month, Bochelle Tayler (12th grade), (Bo) has displayed all of the qualities we look for in a student of the month. Since the beginning of the year Bo’s grades have steadily improved, she has become more conscientious about her studies and appears to be striving towards academic improvement. Bo is always a pleasure to have in class as she is always well behaved and for the most part on task. She has stepped up her game recently and is now helping other students stay on task by providing her peers with redirection when needed. This leadership has been very much needed and is very much appreciated by her teachers and other students. All of these attributes make Bo a worthy recipient of this honor and is consistent with the mission and values of Alexander Public School.
