“Ends are not bad things, they just mean that something else is about to begin.” –C. JoyBell C.
Well, Comets, it’s finally here- the last day of school! What a year! From a historic football season to Prom, this year is worth remembering.
This last week has been a flurry of action as we try to wrap up a year of academic achievement. As always, the last week of school was full of surprises- from a bat in the gym on Tuesday (that was an adventure) to Susie Q’s ice cream truck on Wednesday, we certainly kept busy!
“It’s been a fun year,” Mrs. Turnquist said. “It’s a different ending with rain instead of blistering heat.” She proudly mentioned that her class remained the same twelve throughout, something that hasn’t happened in a while. “Usually, people move away, people move in, but we started and ended with the same group.”
This year was full of memories for everyone. “We did a lot of funny stuff,” future Juniors Jullian Gant and Collin Spell note. “But we all matured a lot.”
“The Mock Trial team making Nationals for the third time was exciting,” Mrs. Severson said with pride. “But we’re losing a great class- the senior class.”
“I think this year went by so fast,” Chanel Chavez, one of our graduating seniors, said, “but I’m glad it’s over. I’m ready for real-life experiences. I’m going to Williston for business, then barber school.”
Naturally, the end of the year leaves mixed emotions for many. “This year was great,” Maddy Sholes mentioned, “it was fun to spend it with friends. But I don’t want it to end. There’s so much I haven’t done yet.”
According to Mrs. Oian, however, “It’s been a good year, but I think it’s time to be done.”
“This year went really fast,” Ms. Stahosky said in her art room. “As my kids grow up, and as my other kids-- my school kids-- grow up, it feels like it’s going faster. It’s all very bittersweet.”
Yesterday we had our annual Awards Ceremony to celebrate our seniors and all of our student athletes. Several speeches were made, including two by students themselves. Mrs. Kline encouraged our Juniors to apply for scholarships on behalf of the Foundation, cupcakes were served, and a huge round of applause went out to all of the students who’ve worked so hard this year.
And, Comets, you all worked hard.
We’re very proud to have every student here, and we’re so excited for next year and all of the future achievements we’ll make together in our new building!
Thank you for a year of firsts and lasts. From new annual events such as the Golf Tournament to the seniors’ last Prom, memories were made. Seniors, we wish you all luck out there in the world, and we know you’ll do great things- whether it be in the workforce, college, or something else. You all have big things ahead of you!
Without further ado, have a great summer, Comets! We’ll see you next year!
